Founded by a renowned dermatologic oncologist, MD Solar Sciences was on a mission to reinvent, elevate, and inspire the daily use of SPF by developing clean, effective formulas equal to clinical grade skincare—that also felt luxurious enough to wear every day.

When MD Solar Science came to work with SMAKK, the sunscreen category was becoming a more evolved category. In order to stand out, we knew we needed to position sunscreen as an essential component of a daily skincare routine rather than just a beach day accessory. That meant refreshing the brand visuals and messaging to feel more beauty-aligned and sophisticated, and simplifying their packaging so it was easier to navigate and more reflective of their clinical and clean formulas. We also rethought the messaging on the front of pack to highlight the formulation story and give clearer benefits to skin, and expanded the line for new product launches focused on lipcare and kids. 

SMAKK was responsible for a complete brand refresh that included brand strategy, visual identity, messaging, and packaging. The result is a more harmonious brand platform that better reflects the brand’s clean ingredients and dermatologist developed formulas, while turning a healthy habit into a daily pleasure.
