ABOUT THE ROLE
SMAKK Studios is looking for an energetic and knowledgeable Freelance Ecommerce Designer to join our team that loves finding the perfect intersection between technology, design, business goals and psychology.
The right person for this position will love working on all phases of projects: from crafting the big idea to getting your hands dirty in executions. You’ll work closely with clients and the SMAKK team on ecommerce projects bringing consumer brands to life through disruptive digital experiences. You have a great understanding of how business, design and technology come together to create great user experiences, both internally and externally. Your speciality is a cross between UX design, ecommerce optimization, user interface and beautifully crafted web design. You must work both independently and collaboratively on projects, from discovery through development. Although this position is freelance to start, there is the possibility for a full time position.
WHAT YOU’LL DO:
Create standard design deliverables including: user flows, interaction maps, prototypes, annotated wireframes, design specs etc.
Create work that is both aesthetically outstanding and conceptually thoughtful, while adhering to brand guidelines, project and technical requirements
Execute web design projects best practices for UX/UI design, evolving standards for ecommerce, responsive, lightweight, and ADA compliant executions
Utilize your knowledge of Shopify and ecommerce best practices to design sites with conversion optimization at the forefront of experience
Lead client-facing design workshops and presentations as needed
Embrace the iterative design process while balancing project delivery timelines and realistic execution considerations with backend technologies, apps, and required integrations
*The base salary hiring range for this position is $80,000 - $100,000, but the final compensation offer will ultimately be based on the candidate’s location, skill level and experience.
WHO YOU ARE:
Minimum of 3-6 years of design experience working within ecommerce site design and UX / UI Strategy
Ability to take project requirements, raw ideas, copy and content to create designs that clarify concepts, create emotional resonance, and elevate brands and campaigns and digital work
Experience working with consumer brands and/or DTC brands - bonus if you have a focus within the Skincare, Beauty & Wellness space
Multitasking on a variety of projects simultaneously
Strategic and tactical thinking as it applies to your projects and work
Demonstrated UX design expertise that is attractive, polished and clear
Fluent in Figma, Shopify, Klaviyo, and Adobe Suite - esp. Illustrator
Understanding of ecommerce best practices and standards in creating high converting shopping experiences
Vocabulary and communication skills around UX, ecommerce, marketing, and content management
Possess a deep understanding of user-centered design methodologies and best practices
Aptitude to learn more and grow not just yourself but your team
Acute analytical skills and superb attention to detail
Good understanding of basic marketing principles and traffic drivers like social media and how it impacts design choices
Work effectively in a team environment including close interaction with clients
Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written
